Traffic light needed on Gardner Road

Bluefield Daily Telegraph

— On my way back from taking my son to catch his bus for school, I came upon an accident. It happened on Gardner Road, right at the intersection of Eades Mill Road and Unity Road. It looked as if someone had pulled out of Unity Road without looking very carefully and a driver coming out Gardner from the direction of Athens ended up running off the road to avoid hitting them.

All the emergency vehicles were there directing traffic until all could be cleared up.

There is a big problem with that intersection. People are driving faster than the speed limit, they are not being careful when pulling out onto Gardner. Traffic is really heavy on mornings and afternoons when school is in session. And the new PikeView school isn’t even open yet! There was even a death a few years ago when a student from Concord was in a bad accident at that same location. A traffic light needs to be installed before anymore deaths result from the increased traffic. We don’t need school buses in accidents or high school students with little experience losing their lives on Gardner Road before something is done. I have already had a few close calls in that same area.
