Lawmakers too quiet on APCO issue

BLUEFIELD — As I have written before regarding Appalachian Power Co., there doesn’t seem to be the interest in West Virginia about APCO as there is in Virginia. I can’t figure why unless we have an abundance of wealthy people in southern West Virginia.

If nobody says anything about the ongoing rate increases, then APCO will keep finding reasons to ask for more rate increases to maybe raise the CEO’s pay from $2 to $3 million a year. I did see in a recent Daily Telegraph where Delegate John Shott said the rate increase was complicated. I wonder if Virginia leaders saw the same complication and yet still pressed on. Our representatives are awfully quiet, like they don’t care. We all should remember these quiet representatives with ballots. Maybe then and only then can we get people who are not afraid to talk.
