Give veterans a pass on turnpike tolls

To (Parkways Authority board member) Bill Seaver thinking, I say “Pfffttt.” I ride the turnpike regularly going to the VA hospital, the $4 toll would buy a gallon of gas at $3-plus per gallon.

Since the state does such a good job robbing folks that pass through, the truckers just pass their tolls on to the folks they are hauling freight for, so the consumer is hit again. Seems like ever since the road was built each time the bonds are about to be paid off something just has to be done to go back in debt.

I assume Mr. Seaver can afford the tolls, so he doesn’t worry. I recently suggested to Sen. Rockefeller that he talk to his state reps about a free pass for veterans that have to travel the road. How much would that cost the state? I don’t want to hear about the EZ Pass, because it isn’t free. It appears the VA doesn’t think there are enough veterans in Mercer and McDowell counties to justify a clinic, so the loss of tolls  couldn’t be that much.
