Our new Republican Attorney General Patrick Morrisey, who spent $1,287,590.40 to be elected, seems to be floundering around and trying to horn in on the responsibilities of local prosecuting attorneys as well as those of the U.S. Attorney’s Office. The West Virginia Attorney General does not have prosecutorial power.
U.S. Attorney General Booth Goodwin is quoted as saying, “I listened to his proposals. In no way, shape or form did I endorse them.” Mr. Morrisey appears to be overly interested in exercising powers his office does not have. One would think that any politician running for a state office would at least know the extent of the powers and responsibilities of that office. Oh well, he is a Republican.
