In response to the article in the Bluefield Daily Telegraph in which the Sierra Club made the following statement, “The Coalfield Express highway does not need to be built.” There is an old saying that is very true. “It is one thing to be dumb, and another to open your mouth and prove it.”
It is very clear that the Sierra Club has no respect and does not care about anyone other than their own quality of life.
Statistics prove when a highway system is built where one does not exist economic and quality of life improves tremendously.
Partnering with the private sector to save tax dollars (that we don’t have anyway) only proves how determined and innovated we are in southern West Virginia. We are determined to improve McDowell County so our children and grandchildren can call the place we love dearly their home as well.
I would ask the Sierra Club before making that statement to come and live in our home and endure and suffer what we do in our everyday life because of no decent roads, and I am sure they will have a different opinion.
I, for one, think we the people of McDowell County deserve better and will continue working toward that goal.
Harold McBride
County Commissioner
