Frontier best option for W.Va. businesses
The West Virginia Public Service Commission is currently evaluating a proposal from Frontier Communications to acquire the landline operations of Verizon in West Virginia. On behalf of the Greater Bluefield Chamber of Commerce, we encourage the PSC to thoughtfully proceed with the process and eventually find for Frontier and approve the transaction.
Frontier is a well-established Fortune 1000 company that specializes in serving communities like ours. They have been providing landline service in Mercer County for many years and are looking forward to expanding their service throughout the state. Frontier is the largest provider of voice, broadband and video for the nation’s rural communities. In addition, Frontier is an excellent corporate citizen, providing both financial resources as well as countless man-hours of volunteer time.
Once approved, Frontier plans to expand its broadband network in West Virginia. Making the state competitive with a strong broadband infrastructure can turn local business into global operations. It intends to grow its business here through local investment, which will undoubtedly help create more jobs in our state. They plan to locate their southeast headquarters in Charleston, where a regional vice president and 30 to 40 new engineers, technologists, operations and public affairs managers will work.
Verizon has indicated the intention to divest itself of the landline operations in states like West Virginia. Frontier is willing and able to make this large commitment of experience and resources to meet the needs of Mountaineer businesses now and in the future.
