Dear Mr. (Steve) Smith, as a long time Food City customer at your Bluefield, Va., location, I am extremely unhappy about the lease you made on the Bluefield, W.Va. location.
All indications are that this lease was made without any due diligence indicating that this was a pre-emptive move to squelch competition. The Bluefield Daily Telegraph reported that a local grocer had agreed to a lease prior to your company's agreement.
Also, reported was that your company didn't want to invest the $5 million to $6 million dollars to bring this facility up to standards. I have a very difficult time believing that with the success that you and your family have had that you would sign this agreement without having done a building inspection, etc.
As a fifth generation Bluefield businessman, I am sad to see another vacant building in our town. I feel that Steve Remines has put together a fine staff at the Bluefield, Va., location. I love the friendliness and cleanliness of that store.
However, I just went grocery shopping at your competitor this past Monday. I will continue shopping there until you correct this situation. In reviewing my Facebook news feed and reading editorials in the Bluefield Daily Telegraph there are many others who share my sentiment. Thank-you in advance to your swift attention to this matter.
