FAIRMONT, W.Va. (AP) — Child-welfare officials have removed six children from a Fairmont home where police found the youngest eating food that had fallen on a floor covered with cat feces.
The Dominion Post (http://bit.ly/UXHff6 ) says 25-year-old Samantha Ann Balch is charged six felony counts of child neglect creating risk of injury.
Police say Child Protective Services workers called for assistance when they prepared to remove the children between 1 to 9 years old.
Officer M.S. Keeble says the home reeked of urine and feces and was infested with flies. Clutter was piled up to 4 feet deep.
The children were barefoot.
A Marion County Magistrate Court official says Balch was released Tuesday on $6,000 bond. A hearing is set for Feb. 20.
A phone listing for her attorney, Scott Shough, wasn't working Wednesday.
