BECKLEY, W.Va. (AP) — A Wyoming County husband and wife have pleaded guilty to charges that they received 17,000 prescription pain pills by mail.
U.S. Attorney Booth Goodwin says Christopher and Jennifer Brooks entered the pleas Wednesday in federal court in Beckley to conspiracy to distribute oxycodone and money laundering.
Goodwin says the defendants received the pills over a span of more than two years from a known individual in Tampa, Fla. In exchange for the pills, they deposited at least $300,000 into bank accounts.
They each face up to 40 years in prison and a $1.5 million fine. Sentencing has been set for June 19 before Judge Irene Berger.
