HUNTINGTON —
A student journalist’s column suggesting that Marshall University needs to move on from the annual remembrance of the 1970 plane crash has drawn angry responses from university supporters.
Student Henry Culvyhouse wrote the column in Thursday’s edition of Marshall’s school paper, the Parthenon.
He questions why the community must continue to be reminded of the Nov. 14, 1970, crash that killed 75 people, including 36 football players. The column’s headline reads: “Time heals all wounds.”
The online story drew hundreds of comments. WSAZ-TV ) reports Culvyhouse was criticized during a local radio appearance Thursday.
Culvyhouse says the column was directed at Marshall students, not alumni or the Huntington community.
Newspaper faculty adviser Sandy York says the decision to run the article belonged to the students.
