CHARLESTON —
Southern West Virginia Medicare recipients who have diabetes can learn about the disease and how to manage it through a series of free classes.
Families and caregivers also can attend the diabetes education classes, which will be offered primarily in 13 counties.
The classes are part of a two-year project led by the West Virginia Medical Institute called Everyone with Diabetes Counts.
The institute said Wednesday that the goal is to educate 6,000 Medicare recipients in the designated counties who have diabetes over the next 18 months.
Classes are scheduled to begin at the end of January in Jackson, Mason, Wayne, Lincoln, Boone, Logan, Wyoming, McDowell, Mercer, Summers, Monroe, Greenbrier and Nicholas counties.
A class schedule is posted online at www.wvdiabeteseducation.org . The schedule also can be obtained by calling 855-376-9382.
