FANCY GAP, Va. (AP) — State wildlife officials are investigating a fatal hunting accident in Carroll County.
The Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries says a juvenile mistook 50-year-old Sanford Ray Semones of Fancy Gap for a deer and shot him with a .50-caliber muzzleloader.
The department tells media outlets that Semones and the juvenile were hunting on private property when the shooting occurred Tuesday evening.
No criminal charges are planned.
