BECKLEY —
A Beckley man was arrested Tuesday for felony possession of marijuana, according to the Beckley Police.
Tobiaz Smith, 35, was charged with felony possession and intent to deliver after police said they found 6 pounds of marijuana and $12,300 in cash in two duffel bags in his vehicle.
Detective Lt. Gant Montgomery said police had been investigating Smith and received a tip that he would be coming from Morgantown Tuesday with a large amount of marijuana.
When Smith arrived at his home on Springdale Avenue, police stopped him and called Sophia Police Department for assistance with the investigation because the Beckley Department’s K-9 was unavailable.
The Sophia dog indicated there were drugs in Smith’s truck, police said. Upon searching the vehicle, police reportedly found 6 pounds of marijuana in one duffel bag and $12,300 in cash was found in another.
Smith was remanded to Southern Regional Jail where he awaits arraignment.
