Michael Lynn Vaughn, 46, told investigators he was robbed by four men, who had approached him seeking a small loan.
Vaught had recently won $13,000 in a crash settlement and he told investigators that money was grabbed out of his hands and the vehicle speed away.
After being dragged down the road, one of the occupants struck the victim in the head with the butt of a shotgun, causing him to release his grip on the cash.
