W.Va. jail guard charged with assaulting 2 women

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) — A correctional officer at South Central Regional Jail has been charged with sexually assaulting two female inmates.

State Police charged 22-year-old Charleston resident James Daniel Green with two counts of imposition of sexual acts on incarcerated persons. Green was freed on $1,000 bond Wednesday night.

Trooper J.S. Pauley tells media outlets that the incidents occurred last fall and involved cell mates.

One of the women is now being held at the Lakin Correctional Facility in Mason County.

Pauley said Thursday that Green acknowledged the encounters but claimed they were consensual.

It wasn't immediately clear whether he has an attorney.
