WAYNESBURG, Pa. —
A man is on trial for crashing into the car of a West Virginia’s sheriff’s deputy who died in a police chase that stretched into southwestern Pennsylvania earlier this year.
Thirty-six-year-old Jerod Green, of Morgantown, W.Va., is on trial in Greene County, Pa. on charges including murder of a law enforcement officer, homicide by vehicle while driving drunk and criminal homicide.
The charges stem from the death of 41-year-old Sgt. Michael May, a deputy with the Monongalia County, W. Va. sheriff’s office.
Authorities were chasing Green after a hit-and-run accident when he crashed into May’s patrol car, which was stopped in the median of Interstate 79 in Pennsylvania on Feb. 18.
Green’s attorney has argued his client didn’t mean to crash into May’s vehicle, let alone kill him.
Testimony was to continue Tuesday.
