MUSKOGEE, Okla. — The generous buccaneer has struck again.
DJ Masterson and his fiance, Audria Bowden, were the latest to benefit from “The Pirate’s” bounty.
“He said, ‘Merry Christmas, Bud,’” Masterson said, who was then handed an envelop.
Masterson stood there for a moment as the man briskly walked away.
“He was dressed as a cowboy, with a purple, western-looking coat, a cowboy hat and sunglasses,” said Masterson. “He gave another one to a lady and her family, too.”
Bowden opened the envelope, and when she saw “The Pirate” printed on a white card and a crisp $100 bill, she was overwhelmed.
“I started crying because it was just so sweet. I felt pretty special,” Bowden said. “And the other lady said, ‘Where’d he go?’ He was just gone so fast.”
The Pirate began his crusade to give residentsof this eastern Oklahoma city a little extra each Christmas season in 2008, when he handed out business cards and $100 bills at a discount store.
He went on over the next few years to give large donations to Muskogee students with $600 worth of backpacks filled with school supplies, $1,000 to a family who lost everything in a fire and $10,000 to the Education Foundation of Muskogee in addition to giving $100 bills to random shoppers around town.
