BEDFORD, Va. —
The Peaks of Otter Lodge on the Blue Ridge Parkway is closing because there haven’t been any bidders for a new management contract.
The Roanoke Times reports that the lodge’s final guests will check out Monday.
Longtime manager Peaks of Otter Virginia decided not to bid on a new 10-year contract with the National Park Service. It’s been managing the lodge under extensions since its contract expired two years ago.
Park service officials hope to have a new manager in time to reopen Peaks of Otter in the spring.
The property also includes a restaurant, gift shop, country store and a bus service to the top of Sharp Top.
