W.Va. parents say teacher put son in 'bad kid' box

PARKERSBURG, W.Va. (AP) — The parents of a Parkersburg High School student say a teacher put their son in a box labeled "Bad Kid Fort" because of his behavior in the classroom.

Beth Dean and Jeff Richards tell the Parkersburg News and Sentinel (http://bit.ly/XGDOMN ) that their 15-year-old son has Asperger's Syndrome. They say the teacher humiliated him.

Dean says the teacher placed the cardboard box around her son's seat.

Principal Pam Goots says the incident wasn't good judgment. But she doesn't believe the teacher intended to embarrass the student.

Goots says she is dealing with incident. She declined to provide details, citing personnel matters.

Goots also says teachers need more training to better work with autistic students.
