PEMBROKE, Va. —
A Virginia State Police trooper has been injured in an accident that killed a woman in Giles County.
Media outlets report 61-year-old Phyllis Marie Cumbee of Pembroke died in the accident Thursday on U.S. Route 460.
State Police say Trooper J.C. Reynolds was westbound on U.S. 460 when Cumbee’s pickup truck turned into the trooper’s path. Cumbee wasn’t wearing a seat belt and was thrown from the truck upon impact.
Reynolds was treated at a hospital and released.
