A Bluefield man received the maximum penalty Wednesday morning for his role in the death of a Bluefield High School student.

Joseph Flack Jr., 45, was sentenced to 15 years on voluntary manslaughter, one to 10 years for burglary and one to five years for conspiracy for the death of 17-year-old Matthew Flack.

Flack’s attorneys said their client is completely blind and asked for leniency, but Judge Omar Aboulhosn ruled that Flack was not a good candidate for alternative sentencing.

Flack was remanded to the Southern Regional Jail pending his transfer to a state prison.
