Shooting victim hospitalized, manhunt continues in Tazewell County

A man who was shot by an intruder in Tazewell County is currently hospitalized at Bluefield Regional Medical Center, police said.

Deputies with the Tazewell County Sheriff’s Office are still searching for the suspect who broke into the Springville residence and  shot the man.

Tazewell County 911 received a call at 11:45 a.m. about a break in on Melrose Street in the Springville area. The homeowner told investigators that the intruder described as a male individual had found a .22 caliber pistol in the residence and shot him in the back, said Sheriff Brian Hieatt.

The homeowner was taken to BRMC and is good condition, Hieatt said.

Detectives are currently on the scene and a search is underway.
