An arrest has been made in connection with a 2009 double homicide at a Tazewell County pizza parlor.
Tazewell County Sheriff’s deputies arrested Christopher Dean Looney, 32, of the Belfast community of Russell County. He is charged with two counts of capital murder. He was arrested on Wednesday. He was arraigned this morning in Tazewell County.
He is the only son of Valerie and Harvey Looney.
“This crime has been a dark cloud over this community for almost four years,” Commonwealth Attorney Dennis Lee said.
Looney is being held at the Southwest Regional Jail in Tazewell.
The bodies of Valerie Looney, 48, and her husband of almost 29 years, Harvey Looney, 52, were discovered on the morning of March 30, 2009 by an employee who was coming to work at the Pizza Plus restaurant in Claypool Hill. The Looneys managed the pizza restaurant. Valerie’s body was found in the office and Harvey’s body was found near a door outside the store. For the past four years, the investigation of the murders has been one of the sheriff’s office’s most pressing matters.
