Winter storms the region, area roads slick and still hazardous

BLUEFIELD — Snow showers are expected to continue this afternoon across the region with additional accumulations possible. However, a significant warm-up is just around the corner.

A winter weather advisory for Mercer, Tazewell and Bland counties remains in effect until 6 a.m. Thursday. Additional snow accumulations of 2 to 4 inches are possible, according to the National Weather Service in Blacksburg, Va.

Temperatures should climb above freezing beginning Thursday. A high of 39 is expected Thursday and temperatures will climb to 41 on Friday. A high of 52 is expected Saturday, and 55 on Sunday.
