17 year-old Texas murder suspect viewed slasher film repeatedly

WEATHERFORD, Texas — A 17-year-old boy told authorities he watched a violent slasher film several times during the week leading up to the day he killed his sister and mother.

Jake Evans, who has been accused of capital murder in the two deaths, told investigators he repeatedly viewed Rob Zombie’s Halloween film three times the week prior to the slayings. The movie’s main character kills several people as a child and later an adult, including his sister and another family member.

Shortly after midnight Oct. 4, Evans, according to authorities, called 911 and calmly described killing 15-year-old Mallory A. Evans and 48-year-old Jami Diane Evans to the dispatcher during the 25-minute call.

After deputies arrived, Jake Evans walked out of the house and surrendered. Authorities found the bodies of his mother and sister inside.

The Tarrant County Medical Examiner reported that the victims were killed by multiple gunshots to the head.

Evans told the dispatcher he had been planning to kill “pretty much anybody” for a while. In the call to police, he described himself as “I’m pretty, I guess, evil.”

Evans’ motive in the killings remains a mystery. Asked by the dispatcher if there was a reason he was so angry with his mother and sister, Evans replied, “I don’t know. I wasn’t — it’s weird — I wasn’t even really angry with them. It just kind of happened. I had been kind of planning on killing for a while now.”
