SALEM, Va. — Patrick Bennett scored 21 points and pulled down six rebounds, leading James River to a 69-48 Group A, Division 2 state quarterfinal win over Honaker on Friday night at the Salem Civic Center.
Honaker (12-14), which reached the state tournament despite being the eighth seed in the Region D tournament, was led by Clark Dye with 13 points and 12 from Ethan Davis, all from 3-point range.
James River, which advances to the Group A, Division 2 state semifinals next week in Richmond, shot 53 percent from the field, while the Tigers connected on just 29 percent, and also committed 22 turnovers.
