Bluefield College Theatre returns to the stage for the first of its spring performances, a comical drama entitled “Blithe Spirit,” Thursday through Sunday, Feb. 25-28, 2010. All four performances will take place in BC’s Harman Chapel at 7:30 p.m., except for the Sunday matinee, which will begin at 2 p.m. Admission at the door for each event is $10 for adults and $5 for students and senior citizens. Noel Coward’s “Blithe Spirit” tells the story of what happens when a suave, debonair, thoroughly married English novelist inadvertently calls back the very jealous ghost of his first wife. The resulting chaos is exciting and extremely amusing.
“It’s a charming British drawing room farce full of wit, humor and things that go bump in the night,” said Charles Reese, director and BC assistant professor of theatre arts. “It’s playful, mischievous, very witty and very, very funny.”
The BC Theatre cast for “Blithe Spirit” includes senior Donnie Bales of Marion, Va., as the novelist Charles Condomine; junior Danielle Workman of Princeton, as Ruth Condomine, Charles Condomine’s present spouse; and junior Jennifer Bohannan of Nashua, N. H., as Elvira, the ghost of Charles Condomine’s first wife.
Additional cast members include Rebekah Transue of Schnecksville, Penn., as the eccentric Madame Arcatti; Josh King of Fredericksburg, Va., and Maryland Funk of Ivanhoe, Va., as the family’s friends; and Amy Hanson of Palmyra, Va., as Edith, the family’s maid. Joining Charles Reese in directing the drama is Rebecca McCoy-Reese, a BC instructor of theatre arts.
