Mountain Thyme, a popular name in Celtic music, is coming to Bluefield on Sunday, March 22, for a performance at Bland Street United Methodist Church. Mountain Thyme is a group of four musicians recognized throughout the country for their performance of Celtic Music of Ireland, Scotland, Wales, Brittany and England.
The group's musical interests, originates from their roots in Sissonville, W.Va., and includes old-time mountain tunes with folk and Appalachian songs. The group also began to focus on traditional Celtic tunes and songs, as a reflection of the members' interest in the music and songs from Ireland and Scotland.
Mountain Thyme's songs range from traditional ballads to contemporary accounts of romance, trials and challenges, historical sagas, personal experiences and everyday life events.
Tunes include jigs, reels, hornpipes, marches, waltzes, contemporary melodies written in traditional style and original compositions.
The band has traveled to Ireland and Scotland on music and cultural projects. Mountain Thyme recordings include the most recent “A Smile At The Door,” which was released two years ago. Mountain Thyme will perform at 7 p.m., at Bland Street United Methodist Church in the church sanctuary. The performance is sponsored by the church outreach committee. Tickets are $5 and are available at the Bluefield Chamber of Commerce, Goodykoontz Pharmacy, New Graham Pharmacy and the church office.
