BC begins spring coffeehouse series next week with band

Bluefield College will host the second of its five spring Coffeehouse events, Thursday, Feb. 4, 2010 at 7 p.m., featuring the hopeful, spirit-filled music of the alternative rock band, The Undeserving. Hosted each month in BC’s Student Activities Center in Shott Hall, the Spring Coffeehouse Series, open to the public, features celebrated contemporary Christian singers and Starbucks-brewed coffee from BC’s Quick Shott Café.

Guests with a paid ticket stub receive a free Starbucks Coffee or 50 percent off an espresso brewed beverage, compliments of Valley Food Services. General admission for the public for each show is $5. Members of the BC family are admitted for free. The Feb. 4 show for the Spring Coffeehouse Series will highlight The Undeserving, a four-piece alternative rock band out of northwest Ohio best known for its hit single, “Something to Hope For.” The recently released single about overcoming odds and realizing dreams was selected by Fox Television as the promo song for the network’s popular reality show, “American Idol.”

In other songs, like “Almost Alive” and “There for You,” The Undeserving sings of love, self-discovery, friendship, purpose, and hope with a graceful innocence and depth that nourishes the spirit like only good music can. Formed in 2004, the group is comprised of Clay Kirchenbauer (lead vocals, guitar and piano), Kyle Kirchenbauer (drums), J. Brennan Willis (lead guitar and vocals), and Jimmie Getty (bass). Their Coffeehouse appearance at Bluefield College is part of the promotion of the band’s first recording project, set for release early 2010. Other shows scheduled for Bluefield College’s Spring Coffeehouse Series, the first Thursday of every month at 7 p.m., include Tyler Dodds on March 4, Danyew on April 1, and House of Heroes on May 6.
