Marriage, July 4th, drug trade, more

A selection of reader comments from our Facebook page last week:

On what authorities should do to young people who “come out” and reveal they’re in the U.S. illegally:

• Give them free room and board in the White House! — Mason G.

• I say make them earn their citizenship and become a USA citizen and be treated like the rest of us afterwards! — Dean C.

• Round ’em up and send ’em back ’til they can legally come here — Sharon W.

On New York’s decision to legalize gay marriage:

• Too late to brag or pat themselves on the back, this is a equal rights issue and should have already been legalized across the nation. It is a national disgrace that our nation is still so backwards — Joe H.

• Gay marriages are immoral! — Diana E.

• God’s word says that [it] is an abomination against Him. Every knee will bow, and every tongue will confess He is God. You do not do the things that are against Him, that you don’t pay for. It’s the Christian’s responsibility to pray for those who go against His will — Vicki B.

• This is a purely legal issue, not a moral or spiritual one — Don Z.

• Hate the sin, love the sinner. And sinners we all are! Sin is sin regardless the form and we all have some form of it — Deb N.

• We are not put on this earth to judge anyone! Period! Let whoever be whatever they want. Come judgment day, they each will have to deal with it from God, if God has a problem with it. Get a life people. Christians or nonbelievers. God says to love all, that means everyone — even your enemies — Marianne A.

• I believe people have rights. I believe I have the right to believe God’s word — Phyllis P.

• Looks like the devil is working on getting his other foot in the door, and it is happening fast — Mary N.

On if you will travel out of town for the Fourth of July holiday:

• Yes, unfortunately there isn’t anything going on here — Eric E.

• No. With family and friends — Elaine L.

On if you support the death penalty and for what type of crimes, and if inmates should be allowed to choose their method of execution?

• Yes, I support the death penalty for those who commit heinous crimes such as murder, sexual molestation of children, among others. If there is indisputable evidence of guilt then those who commit the crimes should have to face the consequences of their actions. Why should they be given the right to choose the method to which they should be put to death when their victims weren’t given the same consideration? ... — Jessica T.

• Did the one they killed get to choose how they was going to get killed? I think they should be killed the same way they kill their victims ... — Della S.

• Yes to death penalty — for violent crimes, especially against children; no to choosing — Bridgett J.

• I do believe in the death penalty for murder, child molesting, and death due to selling drugs. If the death penalty was on the table maybe that drug dealer would think twice about selling drugs, or that pervert on hurting that little child ... — Shirley M.

On what can be done to stop the drug trade:

• They should start arresting some of these doctors that are handing out pills like everyday is Halloween — Jamie L.

• Legalize and tax all drugs. Much less violence from the cartels, would eliminate most of the street trade, just like alcohol. Addiction rates would be lower with additional treatment options made possible through taxes. Law enforcement could redirect dwindling resources to other areas. Let’s stop fighting drug distribution and start controlling it just like we do alcohol — Todd S.

• The first thing that needs to be done is separate drugs and food, dissolve the FDA and have a FA and a DA, then they need to stop letting drug companies advertise on television ... — Samuel B.

On Pat Wilson selected as Princeton’s new mayor:

• Congratulation to Pat! She will do an awesome job! — Janie F.

• Congratulations Ms. Wilson. Now let’s do something about the light at Locust Street and these ... new “forever” traffic lights — Johnnie S.

On the biggest roadway hazards on busy holiday weekends:

• Fatigued drivers on high-traffic holidays and drunk drivers for holidays that are popular for cookouts (Memorial Day, the 4th, Labor Day, etc.) — Donella C.

• Other drivers weaving in and out of traffic, passing on the right — Bridgett J.

• Got to agree that the drunks are a big problem. But also those people doing 20 mph under the speed limit! — Matthew B.
