Blazers nip Thundering Herd in C-USA action

HUNTINGTON — Jordan Swing posted a double-double to push Alabama-Birmingham past Marshall 52-48 Saturday.

Swing finished with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Rod Rucker added 13 points and Robert Williams pulled down 11 boards for the Blazers, who grabbed 50 rebounds — three short of their season high.

UAB (13-14, 5-7 Conference USA) drew the game to a 16-all tie on Williams’ layup and outscored Marshall 14-1 over the final 7:48 to take a 30-17 lead into the break.

Marshall (12-16, 5-8) rallied to tie the game 46-all with 2:52 remaining but scored just two points from there.

Neither team shot well, UAB at 30 percent (19 of 63) and Marshall at 26 percent (15 of 57), but the Blazers managed 18 offensive rebounds en route to 11 second-chance points.

Elijah Pittman had 18 points for the Thundering Herd, who especially struggled from deep, hitting just 3 of 26 attempts.
