Bluefield State wins Herb Sims opener

BLUEFIELD — Charlene Diggs moved into fifth place on Bluefield State’s all-time scoring list, and also led the Lady Blues to an 89-64 win over West Virginia Tech in the Herb Sims Classic on Friday at Ned Shott Gymnasium.

Diggs led the Blues with 15 points, while Tiffany Moorer and Shae Mebane had 12 each. Tasia Nolan added 11 off the bench.

Charity Harris, who leads Bluefield State in scoring, led the Blues with seven assists.

West Virginia Tech (7-6) was paced by Courtney Sturdivant with 23 points and Nila Nolan tallied 11.

Bluefield State (3-2) will pace Salem International today in the Herb Sims finale at 4 p.m.

Salem (1-10) was beaten by Winston-Salem State 65-30. The Rams (3-5) were led by Dionna Scott with 14 points. The Tigers were paced by Inkera Patterson with 11.

Winston-Salem State will play West Virginia Tech today at 2.
