BLUEFIELD —
Herb Sims was the long-time director of Parks and Recreation for the City of Bluefield, W.Va. Each year in his honor the Bluefield State College women’s basketball team hosts a four-team event at the Ned Shott Gymnasium.
This year’s Herb Sims Classic tips off this evening at 4 o’clock with the Rams of Winston-Salem State University taking on the Tigers of Salem International University. The nightcap features the homestanding Bluefield State Lady Blues taking on the Golden Bears of WVU Tech.
Winston-Salem State comes into the classic with a 2-5 record, having beaten Mars Hill and Tusculum. the Rams are a member of the CIAA and have played in the Herb Sims Classic the last three seasons.
Salem International is a former member of the WVIAC, the Tigers are 1-9 on the season, their lone win coming againt WVU Parkersburg.
WVU Tech has the most wins of any team in the classic field with seven. They have suffered five losses. The Golden Bears are a former member of the WVIAC and are currently an independent in NAIA. This is their third straight season in the Herb Sims Classic.
Bluefield State enters the two-day event with a 2-2 record. In their last outing BSC defeated Ohio Valley in WVIAC play 84-47. Freshman Tori Patrick had a game and career-high 16 points to lead State.
After tonight’s pair of games the action moves to Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m., when WVU Tech takes on Winston-Salem State and at 4 p.m. the Lady Blues battle Salem International.

Rams' rally eliminates Concord from NCAA tourney
