BLACKSBURG, Va. —
The Virginia Tech women’s basketball defense tied the school record for fewest points allowed in a single game on Sunday by defeating George Washington 50-31 in Cassell Coliseum.
The game also started a homestand that will see Tech play eight of nine in Blacksburg.
Monet Tellier led the Hokies offense with 19 points, and she added nine rebounds.
Tellier scored eight points in a 16-3 run that turned a two-point Tech deficit into a 22-11 lead. She added five points in the first four minutes of the second half to increase the advantage to 40-23.
Taijah Campbell added eight points and 11 rebounds for Virginia Tech (2-2).
On defense, the Hokies held George Washington (3-2) to 26 percent shooting from the field, limited second chance points to just five, and fast break points to two. The Colonials hit just 6 of 22 from the foul line.
Only once before had a Virginia Tech opponent scored 31 points, when Tech beat Presbyterian 64-31 on Jan. 5, 2009.
Tech will host Wisconsin as part of the ACC/Big Ten Challenge on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
