ATHENS —
The Concord Lady Lions basketball team took down the top women’s basketball team in the West Virginia Conference, Glenville State College, for the second time this season with a hard-fought 79-66 win in the Carter Center on Monday night.
Concord (17-6, 14-5 WVIAC) never trailed in the second half, but had its hands full keeping the Pioneers (16-6, 14-4) and their offensive “System” at bay.
As in their previous win over Glenville State in November, Concord got production from the post. Senior Jolysa Brown led all scorers with 24 points, along with 14 rebounds, six assists and a block. Teammate Andrea Bertrand tossed in 18 points with eight boards.
The Lady Lions, who led 34-31 at halftime, went 17 for 22 at the foul line while Glenville State was 19 for 25. The home squad shot 42.4 percent from the floor in the game and allowed the Pioneers 38.6 percent shooting from the field.
Glenville State’s Tenisha Wilson had 21 points and Mishae Miles, the conference player of the week, had 13 rebounds but only four points. The Pioneers committed five turnovers to Concord’s six.
