Concord men and women’s teams drop WVIAC contests to Charleston Eagles

CHARLESTON — Terrell Lipkins scored 25 points and the Golden Eagles defeated Concord 71-66 in WVIAC men’s basketball on Thursday night.

Concord (11-9, 7-9), which held its opponent to 71 or fewer points for a fourth time in six games, was led by Damien Tunstalle with 14 points and seven rebounds.

Mike Boyd added 13 points and Jordan Davis contributed 13 points and five rebounds. Nick Shannon tossed in nine points and dished out four assists.

Charleston (15-5, 11-5) shot 51 percent (25-49) from the field compared to 36. 1 (22-61) for Concord. Concord was 15-19 at the free throw line, while Charleston was 14-22. Both teams made seven 3s.  

Concord will visit Shepherd on Saturday.



College Women

Charleston 92, Concord 72

The Lady Lions couldn’t overcome 14 3s by the Golden Eagles in a WVIAC loss in Charleston.

Princeton’s Amanda Smith led Concord with 18 points.

She was 6 for 6 from the free throw line and has now made 12 straight foul shots and is 27 for her last 29 attempts.

Rachel Artrip of Honaker added 16 points and five rebounds for the Mountain Lions (6-16, 5-11).

Katy Somerville added 11 points and Stephanie Wagner added 10 points, seven assists and five boards. Wagner is currently seventh in the nation in assist-turnover ratio (2.37) and 12th in assists, averaging 5.3 per game.

Chrissy Keir led Charleston with 19 points and six assists.

Concord visits Shepherd on Saturday.
