CENTRAL, S.C. —
The Bluefield College Rams took to the diamond Friday for their first baseball game of 2013, and left the dugout with a 5-2 loss to Southern Wesleyan University.
The Warriors’ Stephen Wyatt drove in four of his team’s five scores, with a two-run triple in the third and a two-run single in the seventh.
Jacob Wright scored Bluefield’s first run in the eighth when Wyatt bobbled a pick-off throw from the catcher. In the final inning, Wright singled to drive home Will Simpson for the game’s final run.
In the next at-bat, Tyler Lundgren came to the plate representing the potential tying run, but grounded out to second base.
Bluefield (0-1) had seven hits but stranded 11 men on base, including a bases-loaded situation in the fourth.
The Rams and Warriors are scheduled to meet again in a doubleheader today starting at noon.
