Rams finish road trip with losses at Shawnee State

PORTSMOUTH, Ohio — Alannah Sheets scored 22 points, including of Shawnee State’s 11 3s to defeat the Lady Rams of Bluefield College in an 89-82 Mid-South Conference decision on Saturday afternoon.

Bluefield (13-7, 5-5) was outrebounded 46-34, led by Shawnee State’s Schera Sampson, who had 21 boards to go with 18 points. Abby Feuchter added 15 points.

Ashley White led the Lady Rams with 31 points, seven rebounds and six assists. Teqa McNeal contributed 26 points and six boards, while Janee Simmons added 12 points and five boards.

The Rams were just 2-of-14 from 3-point range, while the Bears (15-5, 6-4) were 11 for 27.

Bluefield returns to the Dome Gymnasium on Thursday to face Campbellsville. The Lady Rams are 7-0 at home this season.



College Men

Shawnee 89, Bluefield 57

PORTSMOUTH, Ohio — The struggles continue for the Bluefield College men, who are still searching for their first win in 2013.

Shawnee State jumped out to a 44-25 halftime lead and cruised to a 32-point win, led by Tyler Morgan with 22 points and 14 rebounds. Ian Nixson scored 12 and Tyler Boyles added 11.

Byron Carpenter and Josh Nesbit were the lone Bluefield scorers with double figures with 16 points apiece.

Nesbit added 11 rebounds and Carpenter tallied seven. Kearsten Marion scored nine points in the loss.  

While the Bears (11-7, 7-3) were 50 percent from the field, including 9-21 from 3-point range, the Rams shot 31.3 percent, including making just 4-of-24 from 3-point range.

Bluefield (6-12, 2-8) returns home for the first time since Jan. 5 on Thursday against Campbellsville.

The Rams have lost six games in a row.
