Seton Hill shuts down Concord offense

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. — Seton Hill received a sterling pitching effort from Rick Raraigh to remain unbeaten at the WVIAC Tournament following a 4-1 victory over Concord.

Raraigh fanned ten and scattered five hits in eight innings of work versus Division II's second-highest scoring offense.  Christian Muth worked a scoreless ninth to earn the save for the Griffins.

Concord's Brooks Cullen matched Raraigh until Seton Hill finally broke through in the fifth inning.  Tom Deangelis led off with a single to center field, moved to second on a ground out, and eventually scored the game's first run after a Mark Henry single down the right field line.

The Griffins doubled the lead to 2-0 in the seventh.  Designated hitter Michael Leviseur started the inning with a double and was replaced by pinch-runner Kyle Sasala.  He moved up ninety feet to third on Nick Erminio's flyout to right field and eventually scored on a wild pitch.

Long balls gave Seton Hill a pair of key insurance runs in the eighth as Dave McCarthy and Pat Trettel each launched solo shots to give the Griffins a 4-0 edge.

Concord tallied their lone run in the bottom of the eighth when Greyson Schram singled home Keith Morrisroe, but any further damage was averted when Raraigh coaxed Cullen into grounding into an inning-ending 4-6-3 double play.

Henry notched three of SHU's eight hits.  McCarthy also added a two-hit day.  No Concord player ended with mulitple hits as the Mountain Lions had five safeties.

Cullen allowed seven hits and four runs in his eight innings on the mound.  He struck out six and only walked two.

Seton Hill and West Virginia State collide in Saturday's noon winner's bracket final.  Concord meets Pitt Johnstown in an elimination game at 3:30 p.m.
