BLUEFIELD — Former Princeton standout Tesla Akers has been selected to the Virginia College Division Women's Basketball All-State Team, as picked by the Virginia Sports Information Directors. Akers, a rising senior at Ferrum College, is the fourth Panthers’ player to earn All-State first team honors, joining, among others, Bland County product Tonya Wright, who earned the honors in 2009. A first team All-USA South Conference first team selection, Akers contributed 13.4 points and 33. assists per game, while earning USA South Tournament MVP. A three-time all-conference performer, Akers helped Ferrum (23-6) advance to the NCAA Divison III tourney for the first time in 17 years.
Marshall wide receiver Aaron Dobson, a preseason first-time All-Conference USA selection, and the Thundering Herd are the preseason pick to finish third in the Conference USA’s Eastern Division in the media poll conducted at media days earlier this week.
