Concord baseball wins twice, softball earns split

KING, N.C. — Concord swept a doubleheader during the CIAA-WVIAC Challenge held on Friday in North Carolina.

Concord defeated Chowan 13-4 and St. Augustine’s 10-3, improving to 2-3 on the season. The Mountain Lions used a seven-run ninth inning to break a 3-3 tie in the win over St. Augustine’s.

Concord will play at Winston-Salem State University on Sunday afternoon.

Softball

RALEIGH, N.C. — The Concord softball team split a pair of games at the Shaw Challenge on Friday, defeating Virginia-Lynchburg 20-0 before losing to West Chester 8-3

That was the fourth time since 2002 that the Lady Lions have scored at least 20 runs in a game.

Lacey McDougall led Concord with three hits and four RBIs, falling just a home run shy of the cycle. She also earned the win in the circle, striking out six and allowing just three hits.

Rachael Mack added four hits, four runs scored and two RBIs, while Becca Gleason contributed four hits, three runs and three runs batted in. Alyssa Morris collected her third home run of the season, while Whitney Carrigan drove in three runs.

James Monroe product Karsyn Boothe added two runs batted in.

Concord dropped the nightcap, when West Chester scored three runs in each of the first two innings. Boothe, Hayley Wade, Stephanie Harper and Jessica Seymour had two hits each for the Lady Lions.

McDougall took the loss in the circle.

Concord will play Millersville and Mansfield today.
