College roundup: Morris hits two home runs for Concord softball

BANNER ELK, N.C — Freshman Alyssa Morris hit two home runs and the Concord softball team split a pair of games on Saturday at Lees-McRae, rallying from a 6-5 loss for a 9-5 victory in the nightcap.

Morris had a stellar day with three hits, including two home runs, three runs scored and four runs batted in. Morris now has five home runs on the season for the 12-11 Lady Lions.

Sophomore Lacey McDougall extended her hitting streak to 12 games after finishing the day 3-for-8 with three RBI and two doubles.

Morris is already just four home runs away from tying Ashley Jackson's nine home run year in 2006, for the most homers by a Concord player in a season since the Mountain Lions moved to NCAA Division II.

Concord returns to action on Wednesday at West Virginia Tech.
