Big second inning dooms Concord

CU softball splits a pair of games

SAVANNAH, Ga. — Armstrong Atlantic pushed across eight runs in the second inning on its way to a15-6 victory over Concord on Saturday afternoon.

Concord (0-2) was led by Bret Blevins, who had two hits and scored a run, and Ryan Johnston, who had a hit and added two RBIs against the 29th ranked Pirates.

Josh Wenger added a hit and RBI, while Drew Spear took the loss for the Mountain Lions.

Concord returns to the diamond to face the Pirates today at 11 a.m.

Softball: Concord splits two

PEMBROKE, N.C. — Lacey McDougall improved to 2-2 on the season, pitching Concord to a 6-3 win over the host Braves in the UNCP Invitational  on Saturday.

Concord (3-5) snapped a four-game losing skid with the win. Alyssa Morris led the Lions with a two-run double, giving the freshman 11 RBIs in eight games.

McDougal, James Monroe product Karsyn Boothe and Becca Gleason had two hits each for the Lady Lions.

Concord dropped its opener on Saturday to the Vulcans. Gleason had two hits for the Lions and McDougall drove in the lone run.

Concord will finish its tenure in Pembroke today against Fayetteville State.
