BLUEFIELD, Va. —
Bluefield’s Borgia M’bala and Byron Carpenter couldn’t miss on Wednesday night.
The duo combined for 43 points as the Rams snapped a two-game skid with a 96-83 win over Montreat.
Carpenter was 9-of-12 as he finished with 23 points and eight rebounds. M’bala was 7-of-11 including 3-of-5 from deep which added up to 20 points. Andrew Wilson chipped in with 15 points and seven boards.
As a team, Bluefield shot 56.5 percent for the game and was an impressive 19-of-30 in the second half.
LaBris Adam’s 31 points and eight rebounds led the Cavaliers (11-14, 6-7 AAC) who shot 42.9 percent from the floor. Tyler Buff added 22.
Bluefield (16-3, 9-5) visits Bryan on Saturday.
Women
Montreat 79, Bluefield 63
The Lady Rams saw their four game winning streak snapped by the Cavaliers. Montreat raced out to a 50-30 halftime advantage and Bluefield was never able to recover.
The Cavaliers hit 17 of their 32 first half attempts including nine three pointers. For the game, Montreat hit 51 percent of their shots while Bluefield made 25 of 55 attempts.
Kia Gilliard’s 14 points and five assists led Bluefield (16-9, 10-5). Janee Simmons added 11 while Takieya Rouse had 10.
Mykiea Russell had 25 points for Montreat (19-6, 11-4) while Ebony Battle had 11 points and nine rebounds.
Bluefield returns to action Saturday at Bryan.
