It took overtime, but the Bluefield State College Big Blues defeated their oldest rival, the West Virginia State Yellow Jackets 96-95 in WVIAC action Thursday night at Ned Shott Gymnasium.
Tied at 84 after regulation, the Big Blues outscored the Jackets 12-11 in the extra period to get their fourth win of the season in the final home game of the year.
Roy Cooper led the way with 34 points and eight rebounds. Treon Claiborne added 20 points with 13 rebounds and seven assists, whileVincent Rogers added 17 points and six boards. It was the final home game for seniors Cooper and Rogers.
Six West Virginia State players scored in double-figures, led by Jalen Walker with 19.
Bluefield State is now 4-21 overall and 4-17 in the WVIAC. The Big Blues close out regular season play Saturday afternoon at Concord.

The woes of late continued for the Bluefield State Lady Blues as they dropped a WVIAC contest to West Virginia State on Senior Night.
Shea Mebane led the Lady Blues with 18 points and nine rebounds. Jenaya Abernathy contributed 10 points.
Seniors Kelli Morgan, Tiffany Moorer, Dragana Tomic and Charlene Diggs all played their final regular-season home game for BSC.
Jasmine Blanton topped the Yellow Jackets’ scoring column with 16 and Kashauna Cook followed with 15 points.
The Lady Blues fell to 12-12 and 10-11 in the conference and wrap up regular-season play Saturday afternoon at 2 o’clock at Concord.
