Two UVa defenders named ACC players of the week

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Two University of Virginia defensive football players achieved ACC weekly honors Monday for their efforts during the Cavaliers’ 33-6 win at North Carolina State.

Defensive tackle Chris Brathwaite is the Defensive Lineman of the Week, and cornerback Maurice Canady, the Co-Defensive Back of the Week.

Brathwaite helped UVa hold the Wolfpack to season lows of 19 rushing yards and 216 yards of offense. He had five tackles, two sacks and 2.5 tackles for loss while also forcing a fumble.

Canady, a freshman cornerback, started his first game and led Virginia’s defense with seven tackles and had an interception with a return of 39 yards.
