LYNCHBURG, Va. —
Shawnee Carnett won the 500-meter run and the Concord University women’s track and field team turned in a total of eight top-10 performances Saturday at the Liberty Open.
Carnett’s 1:17.04 was more than three seconds faster than the second-place finisher. Rachel Taylor of Concord came in eighth.
Ashleigh Taylor tied for third in the high jump. Casey Ord and Demi Kirk were among top-10 finishers three times, including their runs in the 4-by-400-meter relay team that finished third. Vivian Ruiz was seventh in the 1,000-meter run.
College Men
Denver Wright had one of three top-5 finishe Concord on Saturday at the Liberty Open.
Wright won the 200-meters with a personal-best time of 22.88 seconds. Concord cross country standout Robby Peters also had a “P.R.” of 2:00.00 in the indoor 800-meter run to finish in third place.
Jeff Fertig cleared 1.99 meters in the high jump to finish in a tie for fourth place.
R.J. Anderson qualified for the finals of the 60-meter dash by running a time of 6.95 seconds in the prelims before recording a DNF in the finals.
Jason Brackett (500-meter dash / 11th place – 1:14.89), Jacob Doss (1,000-meter run / 18th place – 2:52.73), Nick Lucento (3,000-meter run / 32nd place – 9:43.53) and Sterling Snyder (mile / 34th place – 4:47.80) also competed for Concord.
Concord will send athletes to Armory Challenge in New York, N.Y. and the Division II Classic in Geneva, Ohio next week.
