Roundup: Lady Rams win in double OT

ATHENS, Tenn. — After hitting a slump a few weeks back, the Bluefield College Lady Rams have found their groove again.

On Thursday night it took two extra periods, but the Lady Rams knocked of No. 18 Tennessee Wesleyan 71-67. The win gave Bluefield (15-8, 9-4 AAC) as seasone sweep over the Lady Bulldogs (17-7, 10-3).

Teqa McNeal took over the game for the Rams scoring a game-high 31 points. Kia Gilliard added 10 points while Takieya Rouse and Janee Simmons each had nine.

Heather Gibson led Tennessee Wesleyan with 25 points. Cody Houck chipped in with 12 points and Michelle Davis had 10.

Bluefield limited the Bulldogs to 34.3 percent shooting, but weren’t much better at 36,2 percent. The Rams did force Tennessee Wesleyan into 24 turnovers.

Marshall 65, Rice 57

HUNTINGTON — Four different players scored in double-figures for the Marshall women’s basketball team as the Thundering Herd broke a five game losing streak.

Marshall improved to 13-8 (4-4 C-USA) with the win, while Rice dropped to 11-11 (5-4 C-USA).

Alaya Mitchell led with a career-high 16 points after shooting 6-for-11 from the field and shooting a flawless 4-for-4 from the free throw line. Erica Woods earned her second double-double of the season after earning 13 points and grabbing a team-high 11 boards. Rashedah Henriques tied her season high point total with 10 after going 5-for-6 from the free throw line.

Marshall began the contest by going 10-for-12 from the field and jumped ahead of the Owls 17-2 in the first six minutes of play.



Men

Tennessee Wesleyan 100, Bluefield 61

ATHENS, Tenn. — The Rams dropped their third game in their last four as the AAC leading Bulldogs jumped out to a 53-37 halftime lead and never looked back.

Kearsten Marion paced Bluefield with 22 points. Byron Carpenter was limited to 15 points and 6 rebounds.

On the night, the Rams (15-12, 8-4 AAC) hit just 23 of their 64 attempts including just 8 of 27 from deep. Wesleyan, however, hit over 50 percent from the floor.

Quincy Scates’ 28 points led three Bulldogs (16-9, 10-2) in double figures. Desmond Crisp added 26 while Matt Harper had 13.

Bluefield visits Reinhardt Saturday.
