River View product Jacob Muncy earned his second save of the season, as Bluefield State secured a 6-3 West Virginia Conference win over Ohio Valley on Friday.
Bluefield State used a three-run eighth inning to overcome an early 3-0 deficit.
Dylan Raymond’s sacrifice fly in the eighth tied the score at 3-3, and his two-run single in the ninth gave the Big Blues a pair of insurance runs.
Raymond came off the bench to lead Bluefield State with three RBIs.
Tyler Frazier’s sacrifice fly in the seventh scored Clayton Ayers to get Bluefield State on the board. The Blues added three more runs in the eighth, with Princeton’s Sean Williams reaching on a single and scoring on a triple by Dale Davis. That was followed by a Raymond sacrifice fly.
Ayers would later score on a wild pitch for the 4-3 lead.
Muncy worked 4 2/3 innings, allowing just two hits, two runs and striking out five.
Bluefield State (2-10, 1-4) will play at Ohio Valley in a doubleheader today.
Concord, W.Va. State split doubleheader
INSTITUTE — Concord slugged a season-high three home runs to beat West Virginia State 4-2 on Friday and split a doubleheader with the Yellow Jackets, who won the first game 4-2 at Cal Bailey Field.
Freshman Andrew Seigel went a combined 4-for-7 from the plate to lead Concord (12-12, 7-4). Bret Blevins and Devin Smith each stole two bases. Blevins leads the WVIAC with 16 steals on the year.
In game one, Concord was held to just six hits and two runs off of an RBI-double by Ryan Johnston and a run-scoring single by Seigel. Yellow Jacket pitchers stranded 10 CU base runners to claim the win.
Game two saw Joey Miller, Jerrod Groves and Jacob Mays all hit home runs. Chris Baker (3-0) allowed just three hits in one run over the final 3 1/3 innings to take his third win.
