Bluefield sweeps Buffaloes

BLUEFIELD, Va. — All season, the Bluefield College Rams have been looking to Byron Carpenter for their spark.

He lit the Dome Gymnasium in the second half on Tuesday night with a fiery performance, helping the Rams spring from a 45-38 halftime hole and defeat Milligan College 95-86 in an Appalachian Athletic Conference display of sharp-shooting offense.

Carpenter finished with 28 points and 10 rebounds, going 10 for 12 from the floor and making 8 of 12 foul shots.

The Rams (15-11, 7-3 AAC) made 60 percent of their field-goal tries in the second half after hitting with 40 percent accuracy in the first half. Kearston Marion provided 20 points and Andrew Wilson had 16 for Bluefield; both distributed four assists.

Bluefield won the rebounding battle 32 to 22. There were 70 foul shots attempted by the two teams; Bluefield converted 30 of 42 and Milligan hit 21 of 28.

The Buffaloes (8-13, 4-6) made 55 percent of their floor shots but were bothered by 21 turnovers compared to 14 for BC. Kyle Grisby and Mickey Woods had 27 and 21 points respectively for Milligan. Grisby was 5 for 5 from three-point range.

Shooting 46 percent from the field, the Bluefield College Lady Rams easily turned back Milligan College on Tuesday night at the Dome.

The home team was effective on defense particularly in the first half, holding the Lady Buffalos to 29 percent shooting. Bluefield (14-8, 8-4 AAC) led 31-23 at halftime.

Teqa McNeal was 6 for 12 from the floor and 8 for 10 at the foul line, leading the BC scoring column with 21 points.

Alisha Mainer paced the scoring for Milligan (13-11, 5-7) with 17 points.
